From debut to now

  • 2013
Arriving from Stardom Entertainment with a large lineup, the group started out leading with hip-hop colour and a sense of member-by-member units.
  • 2014
Arario, which drew on Korean timbres and historical motifs, and the strongly conceptual TopDog widened their distinctiveness.
  • 2015
The Beat followed a change in the lineup and moved them toward a tidier way of presenting a performance group.
  • 2016
Rainy Day and similar songs showed a calmer expression, opening a way into a later ToppDogg quite unlike the flashy start.
  • 2018
Centred on the later members, work in Japan continued under the XENO-T name, with Wherever You Are as the route into that second identity.

KPOP DISCOVER's ToppDogg / XENO-T note

ToppDogg debuted with Say It from Stardom Entertainment on October 24, 2013. The lineup of 13 was P-Goon, Jenissi, Hojoon, Seogoong, Gohn, Kidoh, Sangdo, Nakta, Hansol, B-Joo, Xero, A-Tom and Yano, and they arrived with hip-hop at the centre while pushing each member's character to the front. The fandom name is ToppKlass.

The easiest recommendation is the trio of Say It, Arario and The Beat. Once Say It has given you the drive of the debut period, Arario brings visuals that lay traditional Korean timbres and costume over modern K-pop. The Beat shows what the act looked like as a performance group once the lineup had settled, so the difference between the two eras can be felt inside a single group.

In 2018, the later members moved to the XENO-T name and put out the Japanese single Wherever You Are through Hunus Entertainment, the final official release in the line that began under ToppDogg. From a large early hip-hop unit through the reshuffle to a change of name, the order Say It, Arario, The Beat carries the drive, the traditional motifs and the shape after the rebuild.

Editors' take Say It / Arario / The Beat — a 13-piece from Stardom Entertainment whose path from a large hip-hop lineup to a rebuilt one comes through in 3 songs.

Japan activity score

KPOP DISCOVER original metric
No. 129/ 210 groups

No. 129 of 210 groups with recorded activity in Japan (top 61%)

  • 1Japanese releases
  • 3Japan-related tracks
  • 0Members from Japan
  • 2Official Japanese accounts

The denominator is the 210 groups, out of 525 covered by KPOP DISCOVER, whose raw score reaches at least one point. The score adds 10 points per Japanese-market release, 3 per Japan-related track, 12 per member from Japan, and 8 per official Japanese account. Japanese-market releases carry the most weight because they are the most direct evidence of activity; related tracks add track-level detail; members from Japan stand for Japanese-language communication and continuity; official accounts stand for a permanent point of contact. The weights are an editorial judgement, not a statistical optimisation, and the ranking tracks release volume in Japan closely.
