ONEUS is a five-piece boy group signed to RBW that debuted on January 9, 2019 with Valkyrie. Seoho, Leedo, Keonhee, Hwanwoong and Xion set out as a fourth-generation group built on weight in the vocals, low rapping and supple group choreography. Korea, Japan and the wider world were in view in parallel from the start, and LIT in the debut year already showed their own sense for combining Korean motifs with pop heat.
The four songs worth holding on to as an entrance are Valkyrie, LIT, LUNA and Same Scent. Valkyrie is the debut song where the supple movement and the harmony that form the group's frame arrive at once, and LIT is still discussed as the signature song that reinterprets the lift of a festival in modern terms. LUNA, released in 2021, layers traditional beauty over a dramatic build and led to a first music-show win. Same Scent brings a grown-up emotional texture to the front and shows the range as five widening a step further. The structure where the vocal line and the low rapping set each other off works in every song, and that is the musical spine of ONEUS.
The appearance on Road to Kingdom in 2020 showed stage structures with a story in them widely, and the first Japanese full album Dopamine in 2022 thickened the contact with the Japanese market. PYGMALION and La Dolce Vita in 2023 stepped towards a lyrical sound and grown-up performing, with a presentation that puts each of the five forward. Grenade, released in 2026, is the entrance to a new phase and a song for checking where the change built up since the debut now stands. Valkyrie, then LUNA, then Grenade runs seven years of the story as one line.
Editors' take Valkyrie / LUNA / Grenade — three songs cover Korean motifs and the shift in supple performing, from an RBW five-piece.
No. 90 of 210 groups with recorded activity in Japan (top 43%)
The denominator is the 210 groups, out of 525 covered by KPOP DISCOVER, whose raw score reaches at least one point. The score adds 10 points per Japanese-market release, 3 per Japan-related track, 12 per member from Japan, and 8 per official Japanese account. Japanese-market releases carry the most weight because they are the most direct evidence of activity; related tracks add track-level detail; members from Japan stand for Japanese-language communication and continuity; official accounts stand for a permanent point of contact. The weights are an editorial judgement, not a statistical optimisation, and the ranking tracks release volume in Japan closely.
