HOTSHOT

ホットショット / 핫샷

HOTSHOT divided the work plainly — dancing, rapping, singing — and most people found the group backwards, through Produce 101.

KPOP DISCOVER's HOTSHOT note

Star Crew Entertainment debuted HOTSHOT on October 31, 2014 with six members. Junhyuk, Timoteo, Taehyun, Sungwoon, Yoonsan and Hojung split the dance, rap and vocal roles cleanly between them. From the debut song Take A Shot, which led with hip hop colour and sharp dancing, they went on in 2015 to build the core of the early catalogue with I'm a HOTSHOT and Body Talks.

Take A Shot belongs first as a way in. The combination of aggressive formations and rap shows the foundation of the group as it was. Moving on to Jelly, the restart period from 2017 onwards comes into view, and another face of the same group appears. Close with I Hate You, where an emotional expression unlike the early sharpness makes clear that HOTSHOT never sat inside a single colour.

Sungwoon going to Wanna One and Taehyun to JBJ in 2017 gave HOTSHOT an unusual way of being referred to, where the group is rediscovered through individual careers. In 2018, while Hojung was working with UNB, the later mini album Early Flowering arrived, and group activity closed in 2021. Listeners still reach the catalogue through solo and acting work. Start at Take A Shot, pass through Jelly and end at I Hate You for the hip hop foundation, the restart period and the range of feeling.

Editors' take Take A Shot / Jelly / I Hate You — from a hip hop axis to emotional expression in three songs, from a six-piece out of Star Crew Entertainment.

Japan activity score

KPOP DISCOVER original metric
No. 183/ 210 groups

No. 183 of 210 groups with recorded activity in Japan (top 87%)

  • 1Japanese releases
  • 1Japan-related tracks
  • 0Members from Japan
  • 0Official Japanese accounts

The denominator is the 210 groups, out of 525 covered by KPOP DISCOVER, whose raw score reaches at least one point. The score adds 10 points per Japanese-market release, 3 per Japan-related track, 12 per member from Japan, and 8 per official Japanese account. Japanese-market releases carry the most weight because they are the most direct evidence of activity; related tracks add track-level detail; members from Japan stand for Japanese-language communication and continuity; official accounts stand for a permanent point of contact. The weights are an editorial judgement, not a statistical optimisation, and the ranking tracks release volume in Japan closely.
