KPOP DISCOVER's TREASURE note

What anchors TREASURE is a YG-style hip-hop feel and holding a hard title song together with album cuts that spread. The group came through the survival show YG TREASURE Box and debuted on August 7, 2020 with BOY; Mashiho and Bang Yedam left in 2022, and the twelve at debut are ten today.

Hard title songs such as JIKJIN sit beside favourites such as DARARI, and because there are Korean and Japanese members the routes into the Japanese releases and shows matter too. Watching the dance practices and performance videos shows the formations of a large line-up and where the rapping and the vocals sit.

The THE FIRST STEP series built the groundwork and the image of the group as ten settled around BONA BONA. BOY, then JIKJIN, then DARARI covers the debut, the hard title song and the favourite that spread, each with a different job.

Editors' take BOY / JIKJIN / DARARI — three songs cover a YG-style hip-hop feel and hard title songs held together with favourites, in a YG ten-piece.

Japan activity score

KPOP DISCOVER original metric
No. 79/ 210 groups

No. 79 of 210 groups with recorded activity in Japan (top 38%)

  • 2Japanese releases
  • 2Japan-related tracks
  • 4Members from Japan
  • 0Official Japanese accounts

The denominator is the 210 groups, out of 525 covered by KPOP DISCOVER, whose raw score reaches at least one point. The score adds 10 points per Japanese-market release, 3 per Japan-related track, 12 per member from Japan, and 8 per official Japanese account. Japanese-market releases carry the most weight because they are the most direct evidence of activity; related tracks add track-level detail; members from Japan stand for Japanese-language communication and continuity; official accounts stand for a permanent point of contact. The weights are an editorial judgement, not a statistical optimisation, and the ranking tracks release volume in Japan closely.
