What holds BABYMONSTER together is the YG-bred weight of its singing and rapping, and a seven-member line-up drawn from South Korea, Japan and Thailand. As the first girl group YG had launched in roughly seven years since BLACKPINK, the debut song BATTER UP reached one hundred million YouTube views faster than almost any K-pop group debut video at the time. The hip-hop of SHEESH, the rapping of DRIP and CLIK CLAK, the R&B of Love, Maybe: hitting a different sound on every release is the design principle here.
The members chosen through the survival programme pair the rapping of Ruka and Asa with vocalists such as Ahyeon and Pharita. When Ahyeon, who had been left out of the debut single for health reasons, joined and completed the seven, the first mini album BABYMONS7ER declared it in the seven of its title. Its title track SHEESH posted one of the highest first-week sales ever for a girl group debut album and reached Billboard's main charts.
On the first full-length album DRIP, G-DRAGON of BIGBANG took part in writing the title track and the group set a personal best for first-day sales. The first world tour HELLO MONSTERS drew audiences on the order of three hundred thousand across about 32 shows, and the third mini album CHOOM extends that reach in 2026.
