SE SO NEON is a band that debuted in 2017 out of the indie scene in Seoul, with the voice, the guitar and the songwriting of Hwang So-yoon at the centre throughout. The roughness and freshness thrown off by the first album Summer Plumage had a strange shine even within the context of Korean indie. The line-up has changed with the years, while the force of the voice and the guitar has stayed the constant entrance.
A Long Dream, The Wave and NAN CHUN are the three songs that stand for the early years, each with a different face. Starting from a floating melody, moving to a song where the heat of rock comes to the front, and then to a delicate texture where the voice and the empty space stand out, the sequence brings out the range of the band. Around Nonadaptation in 2020 recognition spread to listeners abroad, and the music began to be described as carrying a psychedelic texture.
The single Kidd in 2023 anticipated the sharper sound of the recent years. In 2025 Twit Winter, Remember!, New Romantic and NOW followed one after another, setting out the present shape centred on Hwang So-yoon.
