マチルダ / 마틸다

From debut to now

  • 2016
The debut came through Box Media with Macarena, and Summer Again and You Bad! Don't Make Me Cry followed quickly, leaving entries with different moods.
  • 2017
All the members took on The Unit, so returning through individual singing and performance, not only through the group, became the common route.
  • 2018
Musicals, a masked singing programme and vocal work by Haena became the way to find MATILDA through its singing.
  • 2019
Contracts ending brought group activity to a close, and they are now followed as a short-lived girl group with genuine ability.
  • 2026
Lined up with MelodyDay, Playback and Berry Good, the differences among small groups tied to The Unit or to a vocal route stand out.

KPOP DISCOVER's MATILDA note

MATILDA was made up of Haena, Dan-A, Semmi and Saebyeol, debuting in March 2016 through Box Media. The number of releases is small, but vocals, rap and dance are packed tightly inside them. The speed matters too, since from the debut through to October of that same year each song set out a different colour.

Three songs line up as the entry: Macarena, Summer Again and You Bad! Don't Make Me Cry. The debut song gives the early colour of the four, the bright summer track Summer Again checks the width of tone, and You Bad! moves to stronger vocals and sharper expression. Following that order alone brings the whole swing of the group into view at once.

In 2017 every member took on The Unit, and the singing and performing of each drew fresh attention. In 2019 the contracts ended and group activity stopped. Haena has continued with musicals, masked singing programmes and other vocal work since, which keeps a way open to dig back into MATILDA through the singing. Macarena, then Summer Again, then You Bad! Don't Make Me Cry runs from the early colour through the width of tone to the stronger vocals.

Editors' take Macarena / Summer Again / You Bad! Don't Make Me Cry — three faces left within half a year of the debut, by the Box Media four-piece.
