LOONA came through a staged debut plan that started in 2016 from HeeJin's solo song ViViD and debuted as all twelve in August 2018 with Hi High. Building up one member at a time, then the units, then the whole group, already worked as a body of work before the debut. Having different concepts and visuals for the solo, the unit and the full group gives the project a character unlike other groups.
If the entrance is unclear, starting from the bright debut image of Hi High and then feeling the visual beauty and the group choreography of all twelve in Butterfly is the clearest path. Butterfly is the song whose name comes up again and again when LOONA is discussed, built on a wide pop sound paired with tightly worked formations. From So What in 2020 the centre of gravity drops and the sound moves towards a sharper edge. PTT (Paint The Town) shows that later expression most clearly.
