KPOP DISCOVER's Dreamcatcher note

What anchors Dreamcatcher is a nightmare concept with a rock-leaning sound, and grand visual expression. The seven-piece debuted on January 13, 2017 with Chase Me, and JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami and Gahyun build on a hard sound combining rock, EDM and a message.

Deja Vu gave the visual beauty, Scream and BOCA widened the signature entrance, and from MAISON the Apocalypse series put an environmental theme together with a hard sound. Watching the music videos beside the dance practices shows the density of the choreography. There are Japanese releases too, such as Breaking Out and Eclipse.

The lyricism of BONVOYAGE, the way OOTD attacks its concept, and following through to JUSTICE in 2024 show the range of a long-running group. Chase Me, then Deja Vu, then Scream covers the origin of the story, the visuals and the hard sound that leads to the present.

Editors' take Chase Me / Deja Vu / Scream — three songs cover a nightmare concept, a rock-leaning sound and grand visuals in a seven-piece.

Japan activity score

KPOP DISCOVER original metric
No. 55/ 210 groups

No. 55 of 210 groups with recorded activity in Japan (top 26%)

  • 5Japanese releases
  • 18Japan-related tracks
  • 0Members from Japan
  • 0Official Japanese accounts

The denominator is the 210 groups, out of 525 covered by KPOP DISCOVER, whose raw score reaches at least one point. The score adds 10 points per Japanese-market release, 3 per Japan-related track, 12 per member from Japan, and 8 per official Japanese account. Japanese-market releases carry the most weight because they are the most direct evidence of activity; related tracks add track-level detail; members from Japan stand for Japanese-language communication and continuity; official accounts stand for a permanent point of contact. The weights are an editorial judgement, not a statistical optimisation, and the ranking tracks release volume in Japan closely.
