EVERGLOW arrived in March 2019 with Bon Bon Chocolat, a four-piece girl group launched with real fanfare. A hard beat, low-slung rap and group dance on a large scale were pushed from day one, and the name spread quickly inside the fourth-generation girl crush conversation. Adios stretched the force of the choreography further, and DUN DUN put bass-led sound at the front, so by the first half of 2020 they already held several signature songs.
The three worth pinning down are Bon Bon Chocolat, LA DI DA and CODE. The debut gives the original shape of the group, while LA DI DA, released in 2020, shows retro pop and a step up in the polish of the visuals. Moving on to CODE, it takes very little time to see where the current line of E:U, Sihyeon, Onda and Aisha stands. Songs built for group dance such as First, and the uneasy imagery of Zombie, read as a wider swing once those three are in place.
Slay in 2023 was the comeback after a long absence, and Zombie in 2024 tried a visual palette a little apart from before. Carrying the weight of signature songs built by the former six-member line while moving into new work with the current four is the key to reading these last few years. Bon Bon Chocolat, then LA DI DA, then CODE runs from the shock of the debut through the deepening of retro pop to where the four stand now.
Editors' take Bon Bon Chocolat / LA DI DA / CODE — hard beats and a shifting girl crush line, covered in three songs by the CHXXTA Company four-piece.
