C-REAL was a five-piece girl group sent out by NAP Entertainment, starting in October 2011 with the debut EP Round 1 and No No No No No. The names Chemi, Re Dee, Effie, Ann J and Lenny are where the group title itself comes from, and the clear voices of those five still stand for one corner of the early 2010s that ran a pure teen pop line. Working at a smaller scale than the big agency acts is exactly why the colour of the era survives here in undiluted form.
Three songs make the entry: No No No No No, Joma Joma and Sorry But I. The debut track fixes the first impression of the five and their cool tone, while Joma Joma, from the EP Love Diary of March 2012, shows singing that had matured a little and a brighter pop spread. Stepping on to the ballad-leaning Sorry But I, the expression in the voices tilts towards ache, proof that the group was never only cool pop. The catalogue is not large, and that scarcity makes the job of each song stand out.
