KPOP DISCOVER's D-UNIT note

D-UNIT debuted in August 2012 from D-Business Entertainment with RAM, Ujin and ZIN. In a girl group market then dominated by innocent concepts, placing hip-hop leaning sound and forceful performance at the centre stood out. The following year JNEY of GP Basic guested, leaving songs that read almost like the work of a 4-member act.

The track to start with is I'm Missin' You. Though it is the debut single, it delivers both the darker texture and the hip-hop colour of the group at once. Luv Me keeps the same lane while raising the pressure on stage, and Talk To My Face in 2013 pushes the rap share further. Never fully pop, never purely underground, that middle balance is the musical character of D-UNIT.

Activity effectively ended around 2014. Short as it was, a discography that moved from I'm Missin' You through Luv Me to Thank You later became a reference point for the hip-hop lane in girl group history. In the order I'm Missin' You, Luv Me, Talk To My Face, you pass through the darker texture, the pressure on stage and the rising weight of rap.

Editors' take I'm Missin' You / Luv Me / Talk To My Face — a 4-piece from D-Business Entertainment whose hip-hop colour can be traced in 3 songs.
