EvoL was put together as a five-piece of Say, Jucy, Hayana, J-Da and Yull, and debuted from Stardom Entertainment in August 2012. Keeping a distance from the innocent line of the period, the group planted itself on rap and the power of the stage. The label colour around Block B seemed to be carried straight into a girl group, which made them a clearly odd option in the women's group market of the day.
The way in is the debut song We Are A Bit Different and Get Up, released in March 2013. The debut keeps its roughness and its impulse intact, so what EvoL was reaching for lands in one listen. On Get Up the sound is organised and the division of roles among the five becomes easier to read. Put the pair side by side and the outline of how much the group changed within a few months comes through.
No long official catalogue survives, but once group activity stopped, Say went solo as SAAY and Hayana as BEBE YANA, so the ways back to EvoL keep multiplying. It is the kind of discovery where a listener traces a solo name backwards and realises which group it came from.
