ブルドック / 불독
BULLDOK refused the cute route and went hip-hop instead, with Kimi, Genie, Sora, Say and Hyungeun pushing a much harder stage.

Interest from Produce 101 carried the debut, but the catalogue stayed small, so the televised stages matter as much as the video.
Worth finding if you collect the girl groups that chose toughness before it became a standard concept.

BULLDOK debuted from Kconic Music on October 20, 2016. Kimi, Genie, Sora, Say and Hyungeun started the group with attention carried over from Produce 101, and rather than a cute direction they pushed a hard, hip-hop-leaning stage. On debut day they appeared on M Countdown, stamping the early image with five faces and rap.
The way in is Why Not and nothing else. Several versions survive, from the MV and the dance practice to the broadcast cuts on M Countdown, Music Core and Music Bank, so camera work and formation changes can be compared. With few releases to work through, watching the broadcast stages built on that one song together makes each member's rap and sharp expression easy to grab.
In 2017 Hyungeun, Sora and Say left one by one, leaving a lineup centred on Kimi and Genie. A hiatus was announced on January 18, 2018, and the group has effectively been disbanded since. Sora, Say and Hyungeun went on to PEACE, and their individual work is how many people reach BULLDOK afterwards. Why Not MV, then Why Not Dance Practice, then the M Countdown debut stage runs from the shock of the debut through formation and movement to the tension of that first broadcast.
Editors' take Why Not MV / Why Not Dance Practice / M Countdown Debut Stage — three videos covering a debut that put everything into a single song, from the five-piece group at Kconic Music.
