What anchors BTS is hip-hop self-expression and album-scale storytelling that keeps renewing its theme. BIGHIT MUSIC debuted the seven-piece on June 13, 2013, and the themes widened from the hip-hop colour of early songs such as No More Dream and N.O to the youth of the HYYH series, the temptation and growth of WINGS, and the self-affirmation of LOVE YOURSELF.
The way in is Dynamite, Butter and Spring Day. Dynamite and Butter give the force of global pop, Spring Day confirms the storytelling, and moving on to performance footage such as Run BTS and ON makes the roles of the rap line, the vocal line and the dance line visible in the round.
Proof summed up the group's history, all members completed military service in June 2025 and group activity resumed, and in 2026 came ARIRANG, the first full-length album since regrouping. RM was formerly known as Rap Monster, and V is also called Taetae. Dynamite, then Butter, then Spring Day runs from global pop to storytelling in one pass.
Editors' take Dynamite / Butter / Spring Day — three songs run a BIGHIT seven-piece from hip-hop self-expression to global pop and storytelling.
Bangtan Sonyeondan carries the early message of blocking the prejudice and pressure aimed at young people.
No More Dream in 2013 put questions about school and society at the front and set the starting point.
Dynamite reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the English-language single became a wide door into BTS.
Group releases and individual member work are both substantial, so the history reads best when the releases and the solo careers are followed side by side.
Music videos, dance practices and live footage taken together separate the storytelling of a song from the heat of the stage.
ARMY is the name behind the official campaigns and live culture, and the group is hard to understand without it.
No. 16 of 211 groups with recorded activity in Japan (top 8%)
The denominator is the 211 groups, out of 525 covered by KPOP DISCOVER, whose raw score reaches at least one point. The score adds 10 points per Japanese-market release, 3 per Japan-related track, 12 per member from Japan, and 8 per official Japanese account. Japanese-market releases carry the most weight because they are the most direct evidence of activity; related tracks add track-level detail; members from Japan stand for Japanese-language communication and continuity; official accounts stand for a permanent point of contact. The weights are an editorial judgement, not a statistical optimisation, and the ranking tracks release volume in Japan closely.
