Rainbow is the seven-piece girl group that DSP Media debuted on November 14, 2009. Coming from the company that produced KARA, and named for the seven colours, they built on dance pop that pushed the individuality of all seven. The fandom is called Rain-nous, the run crossed Korea and Japan until 2016, and in 2019 a member-led reunion came together for the tenth anniversary.
The entrances to hold on to are A, To Me and Sweet Dream. A is the signature work that stamps the presence of the seven in an instant with its hook and bursting energy, and a Japanese version was made as well. To Me steps into a more polished sound, and Sweet Dream shows a slightly grown-up face with a lingering finish. Beyond bright dance pop, the moments where the vocals gain depth can be heard from early on.
Korean work stacked up through Sunshine, Black Swan and Whoo, and in 2014 the unit RB BLAXX with Jaekyung, Woori, Seungah and Hyunyoung opened a grown-up lane on the side. In 2016, with Whoo from the album Prism as the last release, the contract expired and group activity ended. On November 14, 2019, for the tenth anniversary of the debut, the members led the release of Over the Rainbow and showed that the bond between the seven still holds. A, then Sweet Dream, then Over the Rainbow runs through the signature work, the grown-up finish and the anniversary reunion.
