MADTOWN debuted on October 6, 2014 as the hip hop boy group of J. Tune Camp with YOLO. The line-up of Moos, Daewon, Lee Geon, Jota, Heojun, Buffy and H.O drew notice as juniors to MBLAQ at the same label. Beginning with Mad Town and running through the second release and OMGT the following year to Emotion in 2016, four records were left for the Korean and global markets, along with Japanese versions of YOLO and New World.
The four to hold on to as a way in are YOLO, New World, OMGT and Emptiness. From the bursting hip hop pop of the debut period to the dance-heavy line of the 2nd mini album, then the colourful character turn of OMGT and the aching feeling Emptiness showed in the Emotion period of 2016, the colour of the music shifts clearly inside a short run. The lightness of the formations and the movement reads best in the dance practice for YOLO.
The move from J. Tune Camp to GNI Entertainment came in 2017, but contract trouble made carrying on as a group difficult. Daewon and Lee Geon then appeared on The Unit, while Jota widened his name through acting and variety on shows such as Real Men on MBC. Having several entrances from the group to individual careers and back again is what marks MADTOWN out. Follow YOLO with OMGT and close on Emptiness for the brightness of the debut, the character turn and the later feeling.
