HELLOVENUS is the 8-member girl group that debuted with Venus in May 2012 out of Tricell Media, the joint project of Fantagio and PLEDIS. The early years placed bright, approachable dance pop at the centre, and What Are You Doing Today? and Would You Stay for Tea? stacked up one breezy self-introduction after another.
The simplest way in is Venus, and Sticky Sticky from 2014 gives you the sensation of that impression being turned over. When Yooara and Yoonjo left and Seoyoung and Yeoreum joined in 2014, the balance of the lineup and of the sound moved, and the freshness of the choreography and the force of the expressions came forward. WiggleWiggle and I'm ill carry that switch most clearly when you follow them through stage footage.
What works as a summary of the later era is Mysterious, released in 2017, where refinement lives inside light formations and the group found its last big entry point. From 2019 onward the focus moved to individual work, beginning with Nara's acting. Taken in the order Venus, Sticky Sticky, Mysterious, you pass the breezy starting point, the change of lineup and the arrival of the grown-up direction.
