Meaning

Chodong, Korean for "initial movement," is the number of albums sold in the first week after release. Hanteo Chart defined it in a September 2020 notice as sales in the seven days from the release date. Hanteo keeps an all-time first-week ranking, led by SEVENTEEN's SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN with 5,091,887 copies, and awards certification plaques above set thresholds. In September 2026 it announced plaques for RIIZE's II (1.28 million-plus) and aespa's LEMONADE (900,000-plus). First-week sales show launch momentum and are counted separately from cumulative totals such as Circle Chart certifications.

Usage

Fans quote it right after a comeback: "their chodong passed one million." Attribute the figure to Hanteo.

Examples

  • II — Hanteo announced first-week sales of more than 1.28 million, earning a certification plaque.
  • Seventeenth Heaven — Holds Hanteo's all-time first-week record with 5,091,887 copies.
