Sunny Hill debuted on September 20, 2007 as a mixed-gender group centred on Janghyun, Jubi and Bitna. Kota and Misung joined later, widening the voices and the colours further. After Janghyun left, the work continued as a female group, and in 2019 a new line-up welcoming Eunjoo and Geonhee released Nom Nom Nom. This is a group that changed shape over many years while keeping its name.
Choosing an entrance, the core is Midnight Circus, The Grasshopper Song and Goodbye To Romance. Midnight Circus has a dark, carefully built circus world with a pull unusual for K-pop. The Grasshopper Song weaves social satire into a fable, a rare song that holds concept and humour together. Goodbye To Romance is where you first meet the other axis, a Sunny Hill of aching, unguarded vocals.
After Janghyun left in 2014, Monday Blues from the female-group period opened a new way of listening. Here I Am in 2015 balances pop and singing and reflects the middle-period Sunny Hill well.
