KPOP DISCOVER's LIGHTSUM note
LIGHTSUM debuted from CUBE Entertainment on June 10, 2021 with eight members. The first single Vanilla fixed the first impression with the bright colour its title promises and a bursting lightness. Light a Wish then carried VIVACE, so the earliest months alone show two faces, sweetness and polish mixed together. The fandom is SUMIT, and the name is coined from light and sum, carrying the image of a gathering of light.
The 4 to hold on to as entry points are Vanilla, VIVACE, ALIVE and Honey or Spice. Vanilla touches the origin of their bright pop, VIVACE moves to a lighter step with the back a little straighter, and ALIVE, from Into The Light in 2022, shows how far the pop line reaches. Then Honey or Spice in 2023 changes the expression and the concept plainly, and the impression on the viewer is renewed with it. What these four together make clear is that sweetness and force are both in the hands of one group.
Huiyeon and Jian left in 2022 and the group moved to its present 6. Honey or Spice and Whoopie in 2023 made that restart as six stick, and POSE! in 2024 added a compact way into how they feel on stage today. In 2026 Beautiful Pain by Sangah, Chowon and Juhyeon arrived, delivering a vocal side apart from the dance pop up to then. Taken as Vanilla, then Honey or Spice, then Beautiful Pain, the path covers the bright origin, the turn in concept and the vocal present.
Editors' take Vanilla / Honey or Spice / Beautiful Pain — three songs carry the shift from brightness to force and on to the voices, from a CUBE Entertainment 6-piece.

Japan activity score
KPOP DISCOVER original metric
No. 183/ 241 groups
No. 183 of 241 groups with recorded activity in Japan (top 76%)
- 0Japanese releases
- 0Japan-related tracks
- 1Members from Japan
- 1Official Japanese accounts
The denominator is the 241 groups, out of 564 covered by KPOP DISCOVER, whose raw score reaches at least one point. The score adds 10 points per Japanese-market release, 3 per Japan-related track, 12 per member from Japan, and 8 per official Japanese account. Japanese-market releases carry the most weight because they are the most direct evidence of activity; related tracks add track-level detail; members from Japan stand for Japanese-language communication and continuity; official accounts stand for a permanent point of contact. The weights are an editorial judgement, not a statistical optimisation, and the ranking tracks release volume in Japan closely.
